Psalm 93 begins with telling us that the Lord is clothed in majesty (like a King) and when tsunamis of all sorts seem to rise and roar that the Lord remains even mightier than the tsunamis in our lives. At times things are uncertain and we may be overwhelmed by trials. We may not know where to turn. But if we wear the garments of holiness - He will give us strength.
In 1519, a Portugese navigator, Ferdinand Magellan, sailing under the Spanish flag with 5 ships took 38 days to circumvent around the tip South America to enter an ocean of beauty and calm of which he named it, "Pacific" meaning peaceful (he had lost 2 ships).
We know today - that the ocean can also not be peaceful as we mourn the loss of loved ones in Japan and the effects of the tsunami across the Pacific.
The Pacific Ocean covers more than a third of the Earth’s surface and contains more than half of its water. It is the largest of the world’s oceans, followed by the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean. It covers an area of about 64 million square miles. It is larger than the total land area of the world and slightly less than 18 times the size of the United States.
The Rev. John Doom, of the Tahitan Protestant Church calls the Pacific, the "Liquid Continent." It is peopled by thousands of islands with thousands of people.
In the middle of all the Pacific is Hawaii. Due to the curve of the earth - many airplanes may fly around Hawaii to their destinations to connect the East and West; and the South and North. Yet, when one comes to Hawaii - one realizes that Hawaii has a special calling as a nation - a gate, a gathering place, a gathering well of aloha for the people of the world.
Recently, many secular and religious leaders around the world have sensed the specialness of Hawaii. Many have sensed that prophetically it will be a place where much good can happen - and in a sense - spread a wave of aloha across the world.
In November2011, 21 heads of State and thousands of delegates from around the world will come here to Hawaii for the APEC Meeting. They will be looking at economic growth and stability.
At a time when the world is trying to work together I find it quite interesting that the church has not learned to work together. Yes, there are various organizations representing various denominations - but I am talking about the denominations themselves, the churches themselves, the pastors themselves from different communities - working "together." Too many are what I would call, "Denominationally challenged" hiding behind doctrine and rules (fear and loss of control) rather than the love of God unifying and working together.
For us, the challenge here in Hawaii, is spiritual growth and stability. A time of waking up and arising (E ala e!), a time to rise up to prepare going through another type of season of rough waters. Perhaps a time of cleansing waters! It is time to put on the garments of praise - to wear what the Lord wishes to clothed us with - His holiness.
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a] 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

Below are two video links: the first one is a compilation of tsunami images of Japan and Hawaii. And the second video a call to Hawaii to "wake up!"
May we be with those who are hurting and grieving or whom may be going through their own type of tsunamis help to comfort and provide them a garment of praise.
Mahalo ke Akua for all your blessing!
